Swimming is one of the most demanding yet graceful sports, and for para-athletes, it represents far more than competition—it is a platform to showcase resilience, courage, and triumph over challenges. The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi, an affiliated member of the Paralympic Committee of India, successfully hosted the Delhi State Para Swimming Championship 2025, a key highlight of the First Delhi Paralympic Games, at the Swimming Complex, Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The championship brought together 120 para-athletes across four competitive categories:
- S-14: 25 athletes
- S-1: 48 athletes
- S-13: 29 athletes
- SM-5: 18 athletes
Athletes competed in multiple disability classifications—physical, visual, and intellectual impairments—across sub-junior, junior, and senior categories. Events included 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and the 200m individual medley, providing participants with a professional platform to test their endurance, skill, and determination.
The event was graced by Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as the Chief Guest. Addressing the audience, Dr. Menon remarked:
“The dedication and resilience of our para-athletes truly embody the spirit of New India. Guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, para-sports in the country are receiving unprecedented recognition and support. Today’s championship not only celebrates talent but also inspires society to create equal opportunities for all.”
What made this championship truly remarkable was that it went beyond the pursuit of medals. It aimed to build confidence, promote inclusivity, and strengthen the para-sport ecosystem in Delhi. Athletes gained valuable exposure for national and international selections, trained under certified coaches, and benefited from structured classification systems. The event also fostered friendships, networks, and community spirit, making it a celebration of ability as much as achievement.
Every stroke in the pool will symbolize strength and inspiration, reminding us that para-sport is about breaking barriers, achieving excellence, and celebrating human potential.
The Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF) is honored to serve as the official physiotherapy service provider for the championship. With athletes striving to give their best, the role of physiotherapy becomes crucial in ensuring not only peak performance but also the safety and well-being of every participant. Physiotherapy is indispensable in para-sports, helping athletes prevent injuries, manage fatigue, and accelerate recovery during competitions. Para-swimmers often face unique physical challenges, and the presence of skilled physiotherapists ensures that issues such as muscle strains, joint stiffness, or overuse injuries are addressed promptly. From warm-up assistance and stretching routines to on-ground medical support and post-event recovery techniques, physiotherapy allows athletes to perform with confidence and resilience.
By extending these professional services, NRF reaffirms its commitment to empowering para-athletes. This contribution goes beyond physical care—it enhances confidence, supports long-term well-being, and plays a vital role in making the championship not just a sporting event, but a true celebration of ability, determination, and human spirit.
At the conclusion of the program, the DSPA expressed their heartfelt appreciation towards the NRF physiotherapists. As a mark of respect and gratitude for their valuable contribution, they were felicitated with a traditional shawl and a sapling, symbolizing both honor and the spirit of growth and goodwill.
