PREVENTION TO REHABILITATION: OPTIMISING WHEELCHAIR USERS’ MUSCULOSKELETAL HEALTH

NEUROAID & RESEARCH FOUNDATION in Collaboration with PRYAS foundation Organizes Successful Workshop on Optimizing Wheelchair Users’ Musculoskeletal Health

New Delhi, 18 July 2026: PRYAS (Physiotherapy Rehabilitation & Youth Association for Service), an initiative of ABVP Delhi, successfully organised a comprehensive academic and hands-on workshop on “Optimising Wheelchair Users’ Musculoskeletal Health” in collaboration with the Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF).

The workshop brought together physiotherapy students, interns, rehabilitation professionals, and healthcare enthusiasts with the objective of strengthening knowledge and practical competencies in evidence-based wheelchair rehabilitation and musculoskeletal care. The programme successfully bridged the gap between theoretical learning and clinical practice through expert lectures, interactive discussions, live demonstrations, and hands-on training sessions. researchers Kimberly Charlton, Carolyn Murray in 2025 stated that Wheelchair training programs that are designed using learning theory are more likely to produce learning outcomes that are retained and meaningfully applied. Such longer terms outcomes could have systemic cost and efficiency implications, such as reduction in wheelchair falls and readmissions to hospital.

The event was graced by Shri Pradyuman Raghuvanshi Ji, Sah Sangathan Mantri, ABVP Delhi, as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he emphasised the importance of service-oriented healthcare and encouraged young healthcare professionals to contribute towards building an inclusive, accessible, and empowered society through compassionate rehabilitation services.

The workshop featured insightful sessions delivered by distinguished experts from the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation:

Mr. Inder Vijay Singh, Assistant Professor, IPH
Prof. (Dr.) Suraj Kumar, Professor, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
Dr. Sonal Sharma (PT), Director (Physiotherapy), Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF)
Dr. Nidhi Kashyap (PT), Joint Director, Neuroaid & Research Foundation (NRF)
Dr Nidhi Sharma(PT), centre in charge (NRF)

The scientific sessions covered a wide range of clinically relevant topics, including wheelchair assessment and prescription, seating ergonomics, postural alignment, prevention and management of musculoskeletal complications, safe wheelchair transfer techniques, pressure injury prevention, and evidence-based rehabilitation strategies for wheelchair users.

A major highlight of the programme was the live clinical demonstrations and supervised hands-on practical training, where participants gained valuable experience in wheelchair assessment, positioning techniques, transfer skills, and functional rehabilitation approaches. These practical sessions enhanced participants’ confidence in applying evidence-based principles to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

The workshop was held on 18 July 2026 at the ABVP ITO Office, 3, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, Near ITO Metro Station, New Delhi, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, interns, and rehabilitation professionals from various institutions.

PRYAS expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, esteemed speakers, Neuroaid & Research Foundation, organising committee, volunteers, and all participants for their valuable contributions in making the workshop a grand success. The overwhelming response reflected the increasing enthusiasm among young professionals to pursue excellence in rehabilitation sciences while contributing meaningfully to community healthcare.

Reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility, PRYAS pledged to continue organising such evidence-based educational programmes that promote professional development, interdisciplinary learning, and the core values of Service, Learning, and Nation Building.
